The South Sudanese rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Fanan Ngala released a brand new Afrobeats single titled “Imanya” on July 16th, 2021. Also, a video to the single will be released on July 16th, the same time as the audio. As usual with Fanan, “Imanya” will be more than just another musical project but a bold and beautiful artistic statement. It can be expected of Fanan to merge his South Sudanese roots, with elements from East Africa and West Africa, to create a song that tells an authentic but unique African story while also maintaining a global appeal. Although being a love song, “Imanya” maintains some cultural relevance and also paints a beautiful lyrical image of the African woman, fashion, and aesthetics.
According to Fanan, the song “Imanya” is about love and assurance to a girl. It talks about resilience and endurance in love while also praising the uncommon beauty of his lover – an African woman. Fanan makes this clear through the use of simple lyrics, Afrobeat rhythm, and some sensuous East African-influenced melodies and harmonies – indeed a fusion of cultures. Fanan drew inspiration from the instrumental of the song. Talented music producers Addiction Beatz and Ganja Beatz produced the song. With “Imanya,” Fanan hopes to do more than just entertain but to reach a global and wider audience.
I’m hoping to reach South Sudanese people within the South Sudan diaspora, Afro music, Afropop and Afrobeats fans globally [sic] – Fanan Ngala Fanan has previously been supported by radio stations like City Fm, Youth Advance Radio, Eye Radio, Radio One, JuiceFm, Hot 100, and Fecaa Radio. He also got airplay and support from TV stations like STV and Equatoria TV. He won the South Sudan Music Awards (SSMA), Best New Artist category of 2019. Also, SSMA 2021 gave the award of the Best Afrobeats song of the year to Fanan’s song “Heartbeat.” To reach a wider and global audience, Fanan also signed a partnership deal with South Sudan’s first digital music distribution service “Sudo Hits.” The new single “Imanya,” will be available for streaming across all major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, and many more.
